Faculty of Social Sciences

It is my great pleasure in writing a few words for the existing and would be students of the Faculty of Social Sciences of Bangladesh University of Business and Technology (BUBT). It is one of the prestigious faculties providing quality education to students through innovative teaching and learning process at an affordable cost for transforming its graduates into competent human resources. At the moment, Faculty of Social Sciences have only one Department named the Department of Economics. However, in near future more departments will be included under this Faculty. We are committed to maintain an excellent academic environment; encourage students to inculcate ethical, cultural and social values in their thoughts, actions and practices; build up a dynamic center of excellence in higher education and research for the creation of an ideal society; and develop students’ understanding of advances in knowledge and complexities of modern world for solution of problems of contemporary economy. By now, the Department of Economics has earned excellent reputation for its quality graduates working at various national and international organizations at home and abroad.

With the changed mindset of students to create a transparent, democratic, accountable, corruption free, discrimination free, humanitarian, democratic and secular Bangladesh, we have adjusted our course curricula accordingly. We have completely changed the old and outdated curricula with the new Outcome Based Education (OBE) as prescribed by the Bangladesh Accreditation Council (BAC) and approved by the University Grants Commission of Bangladesh (UGC).

The 4-year B.Sc. (Hons.) in Economics and B.Sc. (Hons.) in Environment and Development Economics programs now comprise of two semesters per year with a total of 130 credits including viva-voce and Project/Internship of one semester duration. However, at the moment, we are not offering B.Sc. (Hons.) in EDE.  The M.Sc. in Economics program comprises of four semesters with a total credit of 40 or 52 (depending on the background).

Apart from the state of art facilities provided for students of BUBT, Faculty of Social Sciences (FSS) boasts having a few extra advantages like: the textbooks and teaching materials followed are research based and fully in English; the Faculty has academic and research collaborations with renowned universities and industries; there is an Economics Club which organizes seminar/workshop at regular intervals and promotes extra-curricular activities; the Economics department of the Faculty has cricket and football teams which participates in inter and intra university competitions; the Faculty has a Career Guidance and International Collaborations Office to help student placements in jobs and internships; one psychologist has been employed on a full-time basis; the Faculty has canteen facility, prayer room; female students can get hostel accommodation; a fully equipped medical center for students with full-time doctors and nurses. Apart from big playgrounds, international conference centers, BUBT provides all sorts of common facilities for its students including air conditioners and multimedia facilities with internet connections in all rooms like an ideal international university. Hefty sums of student tuition waivers, scholarships and donations are made by BUBT in every semester.

Our administrative and academic services are unparalleled to any other universities under private sector in Bangladesh. We do care for our students and they consider it as their second home.
