Welcome to the Faculty of Arts and Humanities at BUBT!

It is my much pleasure to express that the Faculty includes a large and vibrant Department of English, which offers undergraduate and postgraduate programs, supported by modern facilities such as a Language Lab, Reading and Writing Center, and Speaking Corner. Alongside academics, platforms like the English Club and cultural activities enrich students’ learning experiences and develop their confidence, creativity, and leadership. The Department is also contributing significantly to enhancing students’ English proficiency in other Departments for their academic and professional linguistic needs.

In the Program—BA (Hons.) in English— the curriculum includes major authors of English Literature from the 15^th to the 20^th centuries and some courses on language and linguistics are also included to develop our students’ fundamental skills in those fields. The MA program in ELT comprises English Language Teaching, a comprehensive understanding of the areas of Applied Linguistics, and Research Methodology. The recently introduced program, MA in Literature, offers courses on Shakespeare, different genres of modern literature, modern and postmodern literary theories, research on literary and cultural studies, and so forth.  In fact, we have designed the OBE curricula of the programs aiming at facilitating the students to attain their required graduate attributes encompassing the four domains— fundamental, social, personal, and thinking.

I am also delighted to share that the Faculty not only offers specialized programs in English but also contributes to the intellectual foundation of the entire university through its General Education (GED) courses. Our Faculty plays a central role in shaping well-rounded graduates by combining professional skills with cultural, ethical, and civic awareness. Through GED courses in Bangla, History, Philosophy and related fields, we provide all BUBT students—regardless of their major—with the broad knowledge and critical thinking skills necessary for success in today’s world. These courses ensure that our graduates emerge not only as capable professionals but also as responsible citizens who understand their society and their role within it.

Our alumni are now involved in diverse professions— teachers and researchers, journalists and media professionals, administrators, bankers, executives, civil servants, NGO and development workers, and many others. Their achievements testify to the strength of the education we provide at the faculty level.
